Yesterday’s SYO Retreat

Yesterday was my third and final SYO retreat as a student. The three years I’ve been apart of the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Greater Indianapolis have been an experience like no other. Like always I learn to play challenging music and spend my time with other students who are extremely talented and learn from two of the best musicians in Indy, one of which should be a comedian. I enjoyed the many rehearsals, the sectionals, the lessons from the ISO members, the yoga, the food, and everything else. I am also so thankful for the scholarship I received. I have to be honest, there were five seniors this season and only two are chosen for the scholarship, I had my doubts. I can’t express my graffitied enough. Music is such an amazing and powerful thing. It’s the most beautiful language there is and the best companion you can have. I would encourage everyone to play music. Learn to play an instrument, any instrument. There are so many things you can do with music. You would be amazed. As the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra says, ‘Life. It’s better with music.’
